This was not one of my favorite weeks on American Idol. The Andrew Lloyd Webber theme was a tough one for the contestants and as a result I didn’t enjoy their performances as much as I usually do. The only thing that could be worse is making them sing Neil Diamond songs. Oh wait… that’s next week.
Ryan called the Davids out first, Cook and Archuleta. Both of the Davids were safe tonight. Next Ryan called out Syesha Mercado and Brooke White. After Brooke’s restarted performance last night, I figured Brooke was in the bottom two for sure. I was wrong. Brooke was safe and it was Syesha who found herself sitting on a stool tonight. The final pair to come to the stage were Jason Castro and Carly Smithson. Once again, I thought I knew who was safe and once again I was wrong. I would have bet Jason was in danger tonight but it was Carly who had to sing again. I really did not like Jason’s song last night. Carly definitely did a much better job. This is the part of the competition I hate every year when it becomes a popularity contest instead of a singing competition. Both Syesha and Carly had better performances than Brooke or Jason.
When Ryan finally announced who was going home everyone was shocked. Syesha had been in the bottom three fairly frequently so she was the obvious choice. Even the judges were a bit surprised when Ryan told Carly that she was going home this week. Carly has an awesome voice. Too often she just didn’t seem comfortable up on the stage. It may just be that she doesn’t have the other star qualities needed to be an American Idol.
Say goodbye to Carly Smithson America.
Next week the American Idol top 6 take the stage again. Be sure to come back to get our view and discuss the results.

STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.
Jason and Brooke were not even in the bottom 2 after hideous performances last night.
And Jason was even YAWNING during the show. If the guy didn’t care, let him go. I am sick of his attitude.
Carly will be missed.

americans want americans to win - hence the reason Carly and Micheal both got voted off

Maybe VFTW is pulling through for Brooke. I can’t think of another way to explain her not being in the bottom two.
Oh, and I’m looking forward to Neil Diamond week. Good music doesn’t bother me as much.

VFTW definitely was pulling hard for Brooke, don’t know how much effect they had. 38 million votes Tuesday night- I don’t think ANYONE had Carly going home. Sympathy voters for Brooke and Jason? Carly was so good that her fans didn’t think they needed to dial? I will say I’ve never seen a happier loser! I think she was a bit glad the ride was over for whatever reason.

Yeah, Carly was a huge surprise to me especially considering her performance. She wasn’t my pick for the season, but I never expected her to go this soon.

Oh, and don’t forget the Aggie voting block for Jason! I’m tellin ya, they will be dialing for him in a big way as long as he’s still on the show! That’s how they roll. Looking forward to Neil as well. He’s a legend and his discography should be a goldmine.
