Six couples remain on Dancing With The Stars Season 6. Tonight each of the couples had to perform two routines. First a ballroom and then a Latin routine. The judges scores from both rounds were combined. Len seemed to have a bit of a stick up his bum tonight. He was ornery and routinely gave the lowest score for each of the performances. There were no perfect scores tonight. If you read on though you’ll see that someone was finally able to knock Kristi &Mark from the top spot this week. I apologize in advance for my cursory coverage of the first few performances. I had a bit of a SNAFU with my DVR (Thanks Verizon FIOS! Glad I made the switch).

I was waiting for the clock to strike midnight when I saw those costumes.

Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Foxtrot
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24
Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough
Dance: Tango
I’m not sure how many other people are going to like it, but I loved there Tango. I especially liked the story that they told and the way they told it. Bruno thought Shannon’s Tango was fascinating. Carrie Ann told them it was their best performance yet. Len said it had aggression and emotion, and that it was well done.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Quick Step
For such a huge guy Jason Taylor is surprisingly light on his feet. I thought their routine was brilliant, very entertaining. Jason even did a great job with his facial expression. Carrie Ann said that everything about that routine was fantastic. Len thought Jason & Edyta were on their way to the final. Bruno called it the performance of the night.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
Here is what the Judges Leader Board looked like after the Ballroom Round:
Jason & Edyta: 29
Shannon & Derek: 27
Marissa & Tony: 27
Kristi & Mark: 26
Cristian & Cheryl: 25
Mario & Karina: 24
Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Rumba
I know these two are fan favorites but once again this didn’t do alot for me. Bruno thought it was nice but should have been a little steamier. Carrie Ann said it gave her goosebumps. She thought it was great. Len thought it was a bit too careful without enough hip action.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 25
Combined Score: 52
Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Samba
There Samba was pretty good. Cheryl did an awesome job as expected. With his Latin heritage I expected a little better from Cristian. His performance was stiff and weak. Although the pulled muscle in his arm didn’t help matters any. When they finished the routine, despite Cristian’s assurances of being OK DWTS went to break for an extra long commercial set while Cristian got checked out. The judges seemed to like the routine up until his injury. The show’s EMT diagnosed a severly pulled muscle.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 7
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 7
Total: 21
Combined Score: 46
Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas
Dance: Cha Cha Cha.
Kristi really seemed to get into this hip hop performance. You could tell they were having a lot of fun. I have no idea what was up with her hair though. Len only liked the middle. He was not a big fan of the back and forth of the routine or that ‘boogaloo’ music. Bruno thought it was a fantastic Cha Cha Cha. Carrie Ann loved it. I’m still not sure what she said but, I know she liked it.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 8 (Booooo!)
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 28
Combined Score: 54
Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Mambo
That was a hot Mambo. Bruno told Mario that he had the devil in his hips and that the Latin dances were definitely his comfort zone. Carrie Ann thought it was fantastic except for one little bit. Len said it was wild, wacky, and wonderful.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27
Combined Score: 51
Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough
Dance: Mambo
While I think Shannon had more fun with this routine, I don’t think it was as good as their Tango. Shannon seemed stiff and awkward again. Carrie Ann said it was a good job but it still looked awkward in places. Len loved Shannon’s hips. He agreed that she need to wok on her lines. Bruno said she was working her tushy, but she seems gangly in places.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 24
Combined Score: 51
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Paso Doble
I really liked the Monday Night Football themed routine (Maybe I spent too much time this weekend watching the draft). It was very cool. Len liked the quick turns with maybe a little too much posing. Bruno called him ‘Storming Jason, Master & Commander’. Carrie Ann thought they really sold it but caught the one point when his foot left the floor.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26
Combined Score: 55
Judges Leader Board
Jason & Edyta: 55
Kristi & Mark: 54
Marissa & Tony: 52
Shannon & Derek: 51
Mario & Karina: 51
Cristian & Cheryl: 46
