Blindness

Now I’m by no means blind. My prescription is pretty weak and I can get around on my own without them, but I wouldn’t want to go to my day job without them (Did I mention I’m a brain surgeon? Dashingly handsome as well.) But every once in awhile I’ll have a recurring nightmare where I can’t see and it always gets to me.

“Blindness”, from the director of “The Constant Gardener” and “City of Gods”, takes a futuristic thriller-horror look at what would happen if the world went blind. Well, not entirely blind, one person is left untouched by the disease. I’m always a big fan of these “the future is terrible” movies and this one looks like it’ll fit nicely in that genre. Mark Ruffalo has been making great film choices, and though I might not get too excited about Julianne Moore I’ll be willing to get past her for this one.

Just want to inform you that this movie is based on an amazing novel by Jose Saramago that won a Nobel Prize for Literature. I think it deserves to be mentioned this is not an original movie work.

I would also like to give my opinion, as a Literature teacher, that movies made from books are NEVER good enough and ALWAYS leave out very important metaphorical and symbolic meanings. Please read the book before seeing the movie.
