Once again, each of the five remaining couples Dancing With The Stars couples performed two routines each. I was especially interested to see how well Cristian De La Fuente would be able to perform with his injured arm. It turns out he did really well. At least as well as you can do the way the judges were tonight. Carrie Ann and Len were pretty tough on the dancers. Len in particular was hard on everyone. I’m not sure what got his knickers in a wad tonight but, it was next to impossible to make him happy tonight. Here are how the couples did despite Len’s wadded up knickers:
Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas
Dance: Quickstep
Kristi & Mark’s quickstep may have been one of my least favorite performances of theirs this season. I disagreed with the judges, all of whom loved the slow and quick parts intermingled. Len loved it, he thought it was great. Bruno told Kristi, “You are a super candidate with a super ticket to the finals, beautiful”. Carrie Ann loved it but she thought they got a little out of sync in the middle.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 10
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Viennese Waltz
Beautiful. Mario & Karina did a wonderful job. Bruno called it romantic and elegant. Carrie Ann called it nice and stiff. She thought it was the best posture she has seen from Mario. Len agreed. He thought it was the most elegant he has seen Mario this season.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27
Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Foxtrot
Carrie Ann loved watching it. Len thought Marissa had great posture and loved her movement. Bruno didn’t quite think all the stomping around was appropriate for the foxtrot.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 25
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Tango
Their performance was one of the best tangos I’ve seen on DWTS. I really enjoyed it. Len and Bruno argued over whether it was too Argentinian. Bruno totally cut Len off which totally pissed Len off. Hence Len’s score. Bruno said he hates then because they were so beautiful. Bruno told Edyta that she has never danced better on DWTS. Carrie Ann called them “Intrguingly great”. I’m not sure what that means but she gave them a 10 so who cares?
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Tango
I thought Cheryl did a good job covering up Cristian’s injury with the choreography. I wasn’t a big fan in her choice of music however. I definitely liked Jason & Edyta’s tango better. Bruno called Cristian the man with the golden arm. He said you could not see any problems with his arm. Carrie Ann agreed. Len congratulated Cheryl on the choreography.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total:
Here is what the Judges Leader Board looked like after the Ballroom Round:
Judges Leader Board
Kristi & Mark: 29
Jason & Edyta: 29
Cristian & Cheryl: 28
Mario & Karina: 27
Marissa & Tony: 25
Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas
Dance: Samba
That was a beautifully choreographed and performed Samba. I thought that Kristi did a great job dancing but, I didn’t buy her performance 100%. Carrie Ann didn’t care for it. She thought it was a bit awkward or out of control. Len thought it had great speed and spins but lost a little rhythm of the dance. Bruno said she had the most difficult technical challenges.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26
Combined Score: 55
Mario & Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Jive
I thought their performance was great until the flips at the end. Mario couldn’t quite pull it off. Len thought it was a bit rough and Mario’s footwork was terrible. Bruno called it the spirit of Rock n Roll. Carrie Ann thought it was great and that they brought a whole new flavor to the jive.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26
Combined Score: 53
Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Mambo
Their Mambo was just OK for me. It seemed a little slow for the Mambo. I did not think it was as good as their first performance. Bruno thought it was a great Mambo and was surprised that Marissa can do sexy. Carrie Ann said that Marrissa wasn’t able to nail the turns. Len said it was a little too dainty and not raunchy enough.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 8
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 25
Combined Score: 50
Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Samba
If Len wanted raunchy that was it. Their performance was hot; very steamy. Carrie Ann didn’t think it went so well. She thought his musicality was a little off. Len just thought it was alright. He thought Jason looked uncomfortable. Bruno called it a Turkey.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 7
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 23
Combined Score: 52
Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Mambo
I really liked their performance. That was great routine to close out the show. magnificent. Len said well done. Bruno called it magic, more energy than a volcano in the Andes. Carrie Ann told them they were on fire.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
Combined Score: 57
Judges Leader Board:
Cristian & Cheryl: 57
Kristi & Mark: 55
Mario & Karina: 53
Jason & Edyta: 52
Marissa & Tony: 50

Dancing With The Stars 6 Week 8: Results Preview | Wild Bluff Media : Entertainment Examined
May 6th, 2008 at 10:30 am[...] Last night on Dancing With The Stars, I thought the judges (Len in particular) were a bit hard on the couples. They each performed a ballroom and a Latin routine. Needless to say, there were no perfect scores last night. This is how the Judges Leader Board looked at the end of the night: [...]

If you are going to recap a show you should at least know that Cheryl did not choose that music for the tango. How many times have we been told that each week after the show ends, before the leave the lot, the judges had the dancers a CD with their music for the following week. The music is imposed by the judges!!!
