American Idol Stage

Tonight on American Idol the four remaining idols performed songs from the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. I liked this theme because it gave the idols a wide variety of songs to choose from. I think when the idols have a wider range of songs to choose from you get a better feel for who they are and the type of music they like to perform. The danger is songs are so well known that the idols’ versions ar always compared to the originals. Those originals are classics for a reason. Here is how the idols did tonight:

David Cook: Hungry Like The Wolf
I was scared for David when he announced which song he was going to perform. For those of us who grew up in the 80’s this is a very well known song. Cook did an awesome job of bringing an 80’s classic into the 21st century. I loved it. I’m downloading that one.
Randy: “That was just OK for you.”
Paula: “I think your Hungry Like the Wolf left me with a big appetite.”
Simon: “I thought it was good.”

Syesha Mercado: Proud Mary
Syesha’s performance was hot. Her vocals were really good too. That is a really hard song to do something unique with though. I’m starting to come around on Syesha.
Randy: “This is the third week in a row that Syesha is in the zone.”
Paula: “You look like a star.”
Simon: “I thought it was just a bad shrieky version. A bad impersonation of Tina Turner.”

Jason Castro: I Shot The Sheriff
For Jason that was actually a pretty energetic performance. I still think he would have done better if he lost the guitar. His vocals were kind of weak.
Randy: “That was a really karaoke Bob Marley.”
Paula: “I’ve never seen you perform more for the audience. I wasn’t crazy about the song.”
Simon: “That was utterly atrocious. It was like a first round audition massacre.”

David Archuleta: Stand By Me
I wasn’t impressed. David will get votes because he is a cute kid but the actual performance and vocals didn’t really stand out for me.
Randy: “You brought the hot man vocals. That was hot.”
Paula: “Your seasoned already.”
Simon: “Very good choice of song. I thought you struggled at the end a bit.”

Round 2

David Cook: Baba O’Riley
I”m not really sure that was David Cook’s best performance. I still liked it. He made an effort to make it his own but I really liked his first performance better.
Randy: “Thats the David Cook I’ve learned to love. You were great.”
Paula: “I just more. More David Cook.”
Simon: “Welcome back David Cook.”

Syesha Mercado: A Change is Gonna Come
This was the first song tonight I had not heard before. That is probably good for Syesha because I had nothing to compare it to. It was not what I expected on a Rock and Roll themed night but her vocals were absolutely fantastic.
Randy: “I didn’t like arrangement. It felt all disconnected to me. It fell flat for me.”
Paula: “I want you to know how you orchestrated your vocals were magnificent.”
Simon: “I have to be fair and I’m going to agree with Paula.”

Jason Castro: Mr. Tambourine Man
That was horrible and he forgot the lyrics.
Randy: “What do you think?”
Paula: “It didn’t blow us away but you blow me away.”
Simon: “Jason, I’d pack your suitcase.”

David Archuleta: Love Me Tender
I found the fact that he was struggling to keep his eyes open very distracting. His vocals were good but his performance was robotic again.
Randy: “Another great performance. The hot vocals of the night right there,”
Paula: “One of my favorite performances from you.”
Simon: “You didn’t beat the competition tonight, you crushed it.”

Wow. Castro was a complete disaster tonight. He’s done.

  2. Lo

If Jason stays and Syesha gets sent home, it will prove that this year’s Idol is nothing more than a popularity contest, because out of the remaining 4, it’s painfully obvious that he’s not in their league.

i was terribly scared for David C cause this is his genre ..thx heavens he pulled it off…. luved the 2nd song more than 1st though(

Jason C was a total disaster.. im sorry but dont think his cuteness gonna save him….

Syesaha really pulled all strings with the tears and the song being written during civil war ..soo here comes patriatic votes!!!

now i seriously cant get y Randy said everytime David A comes on he’s produces amazin vocals.. come on i know they like the guy but that’s that’s just wrong.. david a forgot his words, last wk was called amatuerish which it was.. and u tellin me he’s ALWAYS bring it? gemme a break…

  4. crystal

DAVID ARCHULETA WAS IN THE ZONE AND I’M PRETTY SURE THAT HE IS GONNA WIN THE WHOLE THING. HE IS THE BEST VOCALIST OUT OF ALL OF THEM AND HE HAS A LOT OF FANS.

  5. Shereeda

sure he can belt out some good notes but he cant sustain a song to its full length let alone an entire concert… come on … he’s bland…

u said “he has a lot os fans” sureee but so did Taylor Hicks and umm where’s he now? u want that for ur archie? cause ill tell u that’s what he’ll be …. that im certain
