ABC has rejected an option to buy up the rights to Golden Cage, a Big Brother style reality TV show from the same creator, John De Mol. Now I love Big Brother, but even this sounds like a good idea to pass after reading the details, according to Wikipedia:

De Gouden Kooi (”Golden Cage”) is considered to be a mix between a soap opera and reality television, parts of the events seem to be scripted. Ten millionaires enter a capital villa. Their life on the Dynasty-like ranch is relieved by a (rotating) staff of personnel. The contestant who remains for the longest time within the compound may keep it. A jackpot which could add millions of euros more will ascertain a lifelong income.

So it’s pretty much a bunch of annoying people living together and trying to force one another out so they are the last man/woman standing, making them the owner of the house. Big Brother has played mini-games like this where they stuff 12 people in a car and the last one remaining gets the car. That was boring enough, just imagine an entire season of it! No thanks.

Talpa, John De Mol’s company, said ABC cited the costs as a deterrent. Yeah, no kidding, it’s a completely open ended game that has a million dollar prize. Hmm…
