Take-Two Interactive announced on Friday that it’s hit videogame, BioShock, is now in plans for a big screen adaptation. If you’re not familiar with BioShock it was definitely one of the top games of 2007 as you fought your way through a 1960’s underwater Utopian society that had crumbled away, leaving only the insane and dangerous. Normally I’d be weary of video games turned into movies because crap directors like Uwe Boll get attached and demolish any hopes of entertainment. Not the case here.
Gore Verbinski, the director of all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, is slated to take the helm under Paramount Pictures supervision. John Logan, who has Sweeney Todd and Gladiator behind him, will be penning the adaptation. Both of these names together make for a very promising and faithful conversion of this dark and intense game. There is currently no release date set for BioShock, but both Verbinski and Logan have indicated they will start working on it immediately.
