Dancing with the Stars

It is time for the Dancing With The Stars Semi-Finals. Four couples remain all of whom would like their shot at the finals. One of these couples will have their dreams of DWTS success crushed beneath the heels of the fans tomorrow night. This week the couples were randomly assigned which dances they were going to perform. Read on to see what we and the judges thought of tonight’s performances:

Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Foxtrot
I really liked their foxtrot. It was very elegant. Once again I was amazed at just how light on his feet Jason Taylor is. A brilliant performance. Len loved it too. He called it fantastic. Bruno complemented Jason on his grace and movement. Carrie Ann also liked this performance. I was surprised when Jason & Edyta didn’t get a perfect score.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 10
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 28

Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Quickstep
I’m not a big fan of Marissa & Tony but, I thought their performance tonight may have been their best this season. Marissa definitely looked like she was having fun with that performance tonight. Bruno complimented her on the performance but also pointed out a missed move by Marissa. Carrie Ann called Marissa & Tony the dark horse of the competition. Len criticized their lack of body contact but based on the technical difficulty of the routine he said they did a great job.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 8
Total: 26

Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Viennese Waltz
I didn’t really care for their choice of music or Cheryl’s dress (I liked Tom’s comment about the missing weather balloon) but since it isn’t a singing or a fashion competition who cares. Their waltz was brilliant. If you didn’t know Cristian had an injured arm you probably wouldn’t notice the stiffness. Carrie Ann complimented Cristian on his movement. Len said they had better content, better movement, and a better mix of steps. Bruno called it a Viennese Waltz with a wow factor.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27

Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas
Dance: Tango
I was really expecting to be wowed by this performance. It was good. For some reason though, I still didn’t buy it. I think it was technically brilliant but I almost feel like she tried too hard to show her emotion. It seemed like that was a bit awkward. Len thought it was technically sound but a bit too hectic. Bruno called Len nuts! Bruno said it was the best footwork he has seen. Carrie Ann complimented Kristi on showing her emotions.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29

Here is what the Judges Leader Board looked like after the Ballroom Round:
Judges Leader Board
Kristi & Mark: 29
Jason & Edyta: 28
Cristian & Cheryl: 27
Marissa & Tony: 26

Len visited the studios of each of the couples to show them some moves and fix some problems. It was fun to watch but between his accent and the technical terms he was using, I don’t have a clue what the hell Len said. The Bachelor, Matt Grant, also made an appearance on the show tonight to confirm that he actually proposed to one of the girls tonight. Check back later to see what Gretchen thought of the Bachelor Finale.

Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska
Dance: Paso Doble
I think Jason does a much better job on the ballroom routines than he does on the Latin dances. Their Paso was good but it didn’t wow me. Jason facial expression were disturbing and distracting. Bruno compared Jason to Iron Man. Carrie Ann said great job, great execution. Len told Jason he attacked that Paso like he attacks the quarterbacks.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 27
Combined Score: 55

Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani
Dance: Rumba
Just like with Jason & Edyta, I didn’t like this performance as much as I did their first one. Something about it just felt odd. Carrie Ann was not excited by this routine either. She didn’t think it was up to par for the Semi-Finals. Len thought they did a very, very good job. Len told Carrie Ann she was wrong because the Rumba is not as a exciting a dance as some of the others. Bruno called the routine very sexy.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 8
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 9
Total: 26
Combined Score: 52

Cristian De La Fuente & Cheryl Burke
Dance: Samba
Another fantastic performance by Cristian & Cheryl. Cristian looked a little uncomfortable at the beginning when he and Cheryl were dancing on their own. Once they got together they were on fire. This was my favorite performance of the night. Len called it hotter than a Chili Pepper. Len thought his arm made him focused and made him come out better than before. Although he did say Cristian may have been a little flat footed. Bruno called it fun and exciting. Carrie Ann compared Cristian to Emmet Smith. Vote for Cristian & Cheryl!
Carrie Ann Inaba: 10
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 29
Combined Score: 56

Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas
Dance: Jive
I think that Kristi & Mark tried too hard again. Something about this performance just didn’t resonate with me again. It was good and energetic. Bruno said you can do fun, you can do cheeky, you can do sexy, you can do it all! Carrie Ann complemented them because the of the extreme difficulty of the routine. She also said that they were out of sync just a little bit. Len said it had a lovely balance but he thought they were a little bit stiff.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9
Len Goodman: 9
Bruno Tonioli: 10
Total: 28
Combined Score: 57

Judges Leader Board:
Kristi & Mark: 57
Cristian & Cheryl: 56
Jason & Edyta: 55
Marissa & Tony: 52
