The Mole Season Premiere

Tonight, ABC is bringing The Mole back to television. It’s been four years since this show has seen the light of day. The format appears to be similar to the original with some new additions to include more viewer interaction. The original series starred Anderson Cooper as the host before he got his gig on CNN. In case you aren’t familiar with this show here is ABC’s description:

The Mole follows a group of 12 players as they try to figure out who among them is The Mole, a saboteur trying to keep them from winning money. Players must decide who they think The Mole is and then learn as much about him or her as they can, because, at the end of each one-hour episode, the player who knows the least about The Mole is immediately eliminated from the game. In the final dramatic episode, The Mole is revealed and one of two final players wins a substantial cash prize.

The new version of The Mole features all-new missions, locations, and music, plus online and mobile interactivity, enabling more viewer participation. Since AC is obviously still busy, ABC has enlisted Jon Kelley to host the show. Kelley has previously appeared on Extra, The National Sports Report, and Baseball Today. The series will have a 10 episode season.

He’s Not The Mole!

He\'s not the mole!

The original show wasn’t bad. In the days before Big Brotherreally took off, The Mole was probably the best reality show on during the summer. The challenges the players face are usually pretty cool. They tend to be a bit more challenging that the ones on Amazing race for example. I also like the twist where one of the players is actively working against the rest of the team. Contestants are always paranoid on reality shows, but when you know that there is an enemy in your midst, it takes the paranoia to a whole new level. While I doubt it will pull the numbers Big Brother or So You Think You Can Dance will garner, with The Bachelorette as a lead in, I expect The Mole to do fairly well. Along as it doesn’t have to compete with any of the big names directly my wife and I will probably follow it.
