Finally! We have survived the auditions. Now it’s time for the Season 4 So You Think You Can Dance dancers to take the stage. The couples were paired off and each couple had a chance to perform for the fans votes. Without further ado here is how they did:
Rayven & Jamie
Dance Style: Hip Hop
I thought they both did a good job. Its tough doing the first routine of the season. Rayven was definitely the stronger of the pair. I think we could have done without seeing Jamie getting pantsed.
Nigel: “Is that routine going to memorable at the end of tonight. Not bad for the first spot tonight.”
Mary: “I hate to put a damper on the first numner of the year. BUT I’M NOT GOING TO… I like cotton candy!”
Dan: “It wasn’t quite there. There was no funk. Not bad, not great.”
Susie & Marquis
Dance Style: Waltz
I thought Susie & Marquis did a great job. Marquis is extremely light on his feet. His routine was nearly perfect. Marquis only flaw was when almost dropped Susie during the lift. Susie was as graceful as Marquis but, she looked great dancing this routine.
Dan: “I felt like I was watching an almost perfect ending to a romance.”
Mary: “You guys pulled it off. You did a great job.”
Nigel: “Very difficult choreography. Marquis… your carriage was awesome. Susie, your lines are tremendous.”
Kourtni L. & Matt
Dance Style: Jazz
Matt did a good job dancing but had a tough time pulling off the character of a jewel thief. I thought Kourtni did a good job and despite Matt’s solo part she stole the show.
Nigel: “I need more personality from you Matt.” “Kourtni you are unique. I thought she looked a little like Princess Diana.”
Mary: “I thought you did a great job. The only part that looked heavy for me was that lift.”
Dan: “Great concept. So so performance. You need to attack it. You have to do better than that.”
Chelsea T. & Thayne
Dance Style: Cha Cha
For two contemporary dancers they did a great job with this Latin routine. Both had the posture down. They seemed a little slow though, particularly Chelsea.
Nigel: “Thayne I think you have a problem. How can you contain this creature next to you. Hips were fantastic. The footwork could use a little work.”
Mary: “You two get two tickets on the hot tamale train!”
Dan: “Damn girl! Sexsay! You guys own the stage. Thayne you were secondary so I guess you did your job.”
Chelsea H. & Mark
Dance Style: Contemporary
I like Mia Michaels routines. This one of a Tim Burton wedding was awesome. Mark was working at a disadvantage because he got hammered in the pre-routine video of their rehearsals. He did not do a great job getting into character.
Nigel: “I thought you danced it brilliantly.”
Mary: “It was unbelievable. If I had a hat I would take it off to you.”
Dan: “You tweeked and you freaked and you did a great job.”
Kherington & Twitch
Dance Style: Broadway
Twitchington was cool. Kherington did a good job but it was Twitch who made the routine. All of the personality in the routine came from him. It could just be that Kherington could use a couple more years of experience.
Nigel: “Very, very hot. The pair of them are great.”
Mary: “Yes I am clapping. I need every one to look up to the ceiling cause the sprinklers are about to go off because that was so darn hot. HOLY SMOKES!”
Dan: “Twitch… you could take Broadway by storm.”
Comfort & Chris
Dance Style: Jive
This was probably one of my least favorite routines of the evening. Chris was trying too hard to show his personality and should have worn a shirt. Comfort on the other hand seemed way to serious. Nigel completely disagreed with me.
Nigel: “We better get Mary’s sprinklers going.”
Mary: “This girl has what it takes for sure.”
Dan: “What you guys need to do now is find a chemistry with each other.”
Katee & Joshua
Dance Style: Hip Hop
I liked the routine. They both did a good job. That may have been the best performance of the night. Joshua seemed better and more fluid than Katee did. Katee also didn’t do as good a job getting into character.
Nigel: “That was really really good.”
Mary: “It was tremendous.”
Dan: “Katee you held your own up there. Bro, you owned it.”
Jessica & Will
Dance Style: Tango
Technically I didn’t think this was strong performance. Jessica and Will didn’t really seem comfortable with the routine. Jessica in particular had a tough time although Will looked like he was going to drop her at the end.
Nigel: “Will you are majestic up there. Jessica a few wobbles her and there.”
Mary: “There is just one way I like my tango to be danced and that was it.”
Dan: “You were hot like fire up there.”
Courtney G. & Gev
Dance Style: Disco
Courtney & Gev’s performance was very energetic but something was missing for me. It seemed like they were just going through the moves.
Nigel: “Did I love that? No. It looked more like Disco duck.”
Mary: “I loved it. I thought you did a good job.”
Dan: “I liked it.”
Tune in tonight at 9/8c to see which guy and which girl get sent home.
