Last night it was time to send the first two of our Season 4 So You Think You Can Dance dancers home. Based on the fan votes following Wednesday night’s performance show. The three couples with the lowest number of votes woulf have to dance for their lives. Each dancer performed a short solo routine. The judges would then decide which male and which female dancer would be leaving the show.
The first three couples up were Twitch & Kherington, Chelsea T. & Thayne, and Chelsea H. & Mark. All three couples ended up being safe. After a short commercial break, Kourtni L. & Matt, and Susie & Marquis were called to the stage. Kourtni L. & Matt were the first couple in the bottom three. This was definitely Matt’s fault. Last night, I didn’t think he was convincing as a jewel thief in their jazz routine. Most of the judges’ criticism of the routine were directed towards Matt.
The next set of couples who were called out were Comfort & Chris and Rayven & Jamie. Rayven & Jamie were the next couple who had to dance for their lives. I thought they did well last night but, Nigel thought their performance was just not string enough to be memorable at the end of the show. Finally it was Katee & Joshua, Jessica & Will, and Courtney G. & Gev. The fact that Katee & Joshua were safe was no surprise. They were great last night. What was surprising was when Kat announced that it was Jessica & Will who were the final couple in the bottom three. Their tango was praised by the judges last night while Courtney G. & Gev were criticized pretty thoroughly by the judges.
Kourtni did great I really liked her. Matt’s performance was not as strong. Rayven’s was a cool mix of contemporary and ballet. Even though Jamie is a swing dancer his solo had some definite Latin flare with some awesome footwork. Jessica’s performance was good, but Will’s was incredible. Based on their solos I thought it would be Matt and Rayven going home.
When the judges returned they immediately told Kourtni that they unanimously decided she was going to be staying. Nigel then told both Rayven and Jessica that their solos were weak but they had to keep one of them. In the end the judges decided that it would be Rayven who would be going home tonight. Like Kourtni, the judges unanimously decided that Will should stay. When it came to Jamie and Matt, the judges liked Matt’s technique but preferred Jamie’s personality. In the end Technique won out over personality and Jamie went home. Matt’s days are numbered though. If he doesn’t step up the passion in his performance he could be going home next week.
