The Bachelorette Season 4

Tonight, on the series finale of The Bachelorette, one man goes home with a broken heart and one man gets the girl.

First, we get a Jason montage and he voices over that he’s scared because he’s already been married and thought it was forever. The montage includes incredibly cute footage of his adorable son and I hope she picks Jason.

Next is Jesse’s montage. He tells us he’s “the skinny, white-kid snowboarder and never expected to do something like this and fall in love.” His footage includes no children, just lots of cuteness.

The boys are going to Newnan, GA to meet DeAnna’s family. Today, they will meet Dad, Chrissy (sister), and Thomas (brother). She tells her family about each guy and they tell us they’ll be hard on the boys because they don’t want another Brad. I wish for this show that they hadn’t spent so much time wallowing on Brad’s season.

Jason is up first and he brings flowers for DeAnna and her family. They say to him, “We’re going to grill you to death.” He tells her family about his family and previous marriage, also that he has a son. “He’s one of the two best things in my life,” he coos, meaning DeAnna is the other one. If he doesn’t get picked, I’m going to marry him. Chrissy takes him for some alone time and tells him she’s worried about her getting her heart broken again. He tells her he’s in love with DeAnna. Meanwhile, Thomas asks DeAnna what she likes best about Jason. She says he’s a great father and a wonderful person. Back at her sister, Chrissy asks, “Why are you better than Jesse?” He responds “I love her.” “Can you take care of her emotionally?” “I’ve never felt this way. Ever.”

Dad takes Jason aside and Jason immediately goes into this thing about how he’s in love with the man’s daughter and asks permission to propose. He says that no one has ever asked him before and tells Jason that DeAnna definitely thinks he’s special, agrees to allow the proposal, and offers his blessing. Jason is impressed by her family and once he’s gone and DeAnna asks their opinion, they gush approval.

Jesse. Though how he can manage to top that visit is beyond me. He’s super-nervous and they can tell. They grill him about his snowboarding and we never really see much in the way of response from Jesse due to some editing. Dad takes him aside and asks if he’s ever been in a serious relationship. The response is, yes, that he lived with a girl for about 2 years and then they drifted apart. Meanwhile, Chrissy asks DeAnna if she can see herself with him for the rest of her life and we don’t see DeAnna answer, just ponder. The family really tears Jesse apart and he thinks he blew it. I feel bad for him because they weren’t nearly as open-minded with Jesse as Jason.

DeAnna believes the family isn’t accepting him because he’s not her usual pick. Dad tells her both guys are definitely falling for her, but that Jason was more heartfelt. He asks her if Jesse is in the same place in his life as she is and I am really annoyed at how they’re trying to tell her to pick Jason over Jesse. Her decision, guys, not yours.

The next day, both men are going to meet the entire family including her aunt, uncle, Yaya, Papu, and sister-in-law, Crystal. Yaya is awesome. Just saying. Jesse comes in, then Jason and both interview that they don’t like sharing. It’s super weird and they’re both uncomfortable, but joke about it nicely. Jason takes it a little better because Jesse is looking much like a deer in headlights. Yaya asks them to summarize their pros and cons. Jesse goes into his spiel about how much he cares for her (his pro) and something about being rad. Jason says he’s not as rad (a con, though I thoroughly disagree…they are both rad) and then Yaya makes a comment and I laugh out loud.

Jason has one-on-one time with her grandparents. “She’s everything that I’ve ever looked for in a partner,” he tells them. Yaya tells Jason she wants it to be him.

Crystal and Chrissy have Jesse in their clutches and I feel like he’s still really nervous and selling himself to them. They love him, though.

Jesse pulls DeAnna’s dad aside to let him know his feelings and asks permission to propose, and his blessing. Dad asks if he’s ready and he relays a really cute story about how he used to ask his dad how he knew his mom was the right one and his dad always said, “You’ll just know.” Then, with DeAnna, his dad gave the stamp of approval and Jesse knew that was a sign and DeAnna’s dad is won over. He gives his permission and blessing.

Ouzo shots around, then time to go. Both loved her family and when DeAnna asks her sisters who they’d pick, they confuse her even more.

The Bahamas
Jeremy feels he needs to have more air time and have DeAnna clear the air. He thinks she made a mistake and she tells him she knows what it’s like and it’s just not in her heart. “Right now, I am not in love” (with him), and explains how she doesn’t want to lead him on. He breaks down and I’m worried he’s going to go jump in the ocean and drown, but thankfully, he leaves.

Jesse’s date is first and they take a hydroplane to a secluded island. Jesse voices over the amazing footage and talks about his feelings. They go back to the hotel where he gives her his “Book of Thoughts” as a gift. It’s really cute and sweet, and he tells her he loves her.

Jason’s going scuba diving with sharks and it freaks me out the whole time watching (until one hits the camera which makes me laugh). He “protected” her and “played the man” she tells us and I’m just amazed at this whole ordeal. Back at the hotel, he’s made a game for DeAnna called “Eight Roses.” It’s a board game he’s made himself about all their dates and tells her he loves her. She tells us “I’m not sure how I’m supposed to decide when I have two wonderful guys.”

Jason buys a ring and makes a wish into a fountain. Jesse almost hurls outside the ring shop and then buys a gorgeous ring. We see the heart-wrenching montage we always see of getting ready with voice-overs from everyone about how they’re in love and etc. I really always get nervous around now.

Jason’s first out which means he’s going home and I am so sad for him because he’s been my favorite for awhile now. He tells her Ty picked his orange tie (something about a Georgia peach) and she’s all, “Aww.” He kneels, she says, “I can’t” and then tells him how she’s in love with someone else. In the limo, he tells us he was ready to be in love again and waxes poetic about how he wasn’t enough, though he thought he was. I am sad for him, but maybe it’s better because now my favorite guy can go out there and find an even better girl.

Jesse: DeAnna feels like she can’t live without him. “Today I am ending up with my soulmate! I have found the man of my dreams.” Jesse tells her, “I never thought this process was real and the thought of not being with you breaks my heart. When I think about you, I only think of one word. Forever. I wanna spend forever with you. I believe you are my soulmate. DeAnna Marie Pappas, will you spend forever with me?” Yes! And a montage of their entire time together. Very sweet. I’m happy for them!
