Big Brother 10 Season Kick Off

The latest season of Big Brother kicked off last night. After Big Brother 9, which in my opinion was the worst season of Big Brother ever, I did not have high hopes for Big Brother 10. After last night’s show I was slightly reassured. While I haven’t really seen any house guests that I am really excited about yet, I did feel like CBS actually put a little more effort into this season. BB9 was a rush job used as filler by CBS during the writer’s strike.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, here is a list of the Big Brother 10 House Guests:

April - Financial Manager
Angie - Pharmaceutical Sales Rep
Jerry - 70 Year Old Great Grand Father
Steven - Gay Rodeo Star
Dan - Catholic School Teacher
Rene - Married New Orleans Party Girl
Memphis - Bartender (I don’t buy the Mixologist BS)
Jessie - Body Builder
Keesha - Hooter’s Bar Maid
Libra - African American Mom of 3
Brian - Phone Salesman
Ollie - Marketing Sales Rep
Michelle - Real Estate Agent

The first evidence that CBS may actually have put some thought into this season was that the first twist of the season occurred before the house guests even entered the big brother house. The house guests had to vote for a Head of Household (HOH) before they entered the house or even had a chance to talk to each other. The winner, Jerry was not announced until later in the show. My guess is that the only reason he got picked because he was the only one who stood out in the crowd. I thought it was interesting to see how Jerry would react to these young ‘kids’ kissing up to him. The first challenge was also pretty elaborate for the first show of the season. I involved full size VW’s hanging upside down on a framework which the house guests had to pull back and forth with the last house guest in the VW on the winning team getting a vintage sports car as a prize. CBS was obviously going all out this season, especially to give away a car so early in the season. Memphis won the car and the red team won food for the week.

The house guests are the usual mix of not jobs and attention whores. As usual the two religious nuts in the house, Dan and Ollie, were a little annoying. Although, I like the Brian, Dan, and Ollie triad. I like Jerry The great granddad and former marine. I doubt he’ll make it more than a few weeks though. He won’t be able to do the physical challenges against the twenty somethings and he may also have a tough time relating to them. Rene is without a doubt the most annoying individual in the house. That hideous laugh. She is also a complete wingnut! Jessie is a close second though. What a baby. He couldn’t sleep because she was laughing in the next room. One hour into the season and I hate these two already. Fortunately both of them were nominated for eviction by Jerry so hopefully at least one of them will be gone.

So not a bad start to the season. At least I have hope. I mean it can’t be worse than BB9. I’m looking forward to the next episode tomorrow night.
